We started with a design for a second story addition, but when that went beyond our means, we decided to look downstairs instead. The goal was to connect the main level with the basement and make a whole, two-story house.

The existing stairs and basement were gutted, new finishes applied. The spaces downstairs were opened up and streamlined, revealing a unified and connected second story, and at half the cost of adding a new one up above.
