Cathedral Bar

Two years in, it came down to this: how to build a $1.2 million project for just $700 thousand. Cut out everything but the essentials: a bar and a bathroom. Let the existing space do all the work, a triangle of storefront glass and concrete and steel frames. As these things go, $700 thousand still wasn't low enough, but we learn at least as much from our failures as we do from success. Designed in collaboration with E.M. Romeo.

  • Location: 1st floor of the Cathedral Building in Oakland, CA
